Why is it that there are so many reality TV shows on lately?

While the writer's strike was going on, rather than concentrating on important issues and the news, reality TV shows became popular. *sigh*

HEY HOLLYWOOD, REALITY TV SUCKS!!! ... Except for the various Idols out there (American, Canadian, Pop, etc.)
